Arif Usmani

Arif Usmani has been a member of General Management at Habib Bank AG Zurich since 2023. As Group Chief Risk Officer, he is responsible for the risk management organization and framework across all risk classes within the Group. He joined Habib Bank AG Zurich in 2022.

Arif Usmani has over 40 years of experience in various banking disciplines across multiple geographies and markets, including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Slovakia, the Middle East, and Africa. Before joining Habib Bank AG Zurich, he served as President and CEO of the National Bank of Pakistan, the country’s second-largest commercial bank, from 2019 to 2022. Prior to that, he was Chief Risk Officer at Mashreq Bank in Dubai, UAE, from 2017 to 2019, and Group Head of Wholesale Banking at Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank in Abu Dhabi, UAE, from 2012 to 2017.

From 1981 to 2012, Arif Usmani worked for Citi and its affiliate, the Saudi American Bank (later Samba Financial Group), in Saudi Arabia, where his last position was Chief Risk Officer and member of the Executive Committee. At Citi, he held various corporate banking and credit risk management roles and was CEO of the group’s businesses in Slovakia, Pakistan, and Nigeria. In Nigeria, he was also responsible for Citi’s franchises in the West African region.

Arif Usmani holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Theoretical Physics from Imperial College, London, and is an Associate of the Royal College of Science.
